Marinović was born in Auckland and began his career at Auckland City, before signing on in Europe at the age of 19 – going on to make 100 league appearances in Germany, as well as successful stints with Vancouver in the MLS and Bristol City in England. The 28-year-old Marinović is regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the Hyundai A-League following his first season with the Phoenix in 2019/20, during which he played a key role in the team’s third place finish. > Hyundai A-League Career Marinović returned to New Zealand to sign for Wellington Phoenix in June 2019 on a two-year contract. In his first season for the Phoenix, he played every minute of all 27 matches; recording five clean sheets to go along with 87 saves (a 72% save rate) which ranked him fifth in the A-League. With Marinović between the sticks, the Phoenix would concede just 34 goals for the season; second-best in the A-League behind Brisbane Roar. In addition to being named to the A-League Team of the Week three times, Marinović also became the first goalkeeper to register an assist in the Hyundai A-League since 2015 - with his massive clearance setting up David Ball during the Phoenix’s 3-0 win in Round 20 against Western United. > All Whites Career In March 2015, Marinović was called up by then All Whites Coach, Anthony Hudson, to appear in a friendly against South Korea - making a vital save to leave his imprint on the match. He has since gone on to make 25 appearances for the International side, including World Cup Qualifiers, International Friendlies, and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. He most recently played in All Whites friendlies against Ireland and Lithuania in 2019. > Previous Clubs Marinović began his career at Auckland City before being signed by third-tier German side SV Wehen Wiesbaden, followed by stints at FC Ismaning, 860 Munich Reserves and SpVgg Unterhaching. After an impressive display at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, Marinović joined Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS. After making 32 appearances in the season, both the player and club parted ways and the goalkeeper was signed by Bristol City in the EFL Championship for the 2018/19 season.
