Lewis Italiano

Goalkeeper
biography-icon Biography
After catching the attention of then-goalkeeping coach, Jonathan Gould, Italiano joined the Wellington Phoenix in 2013 as Ernie Merrick’s first signing. A long-term understudy to Glen Moss, the Western-Australian born shot stopper finally displaced the All White at the end of last season with a series of strong performances. With the arrival of Darije Kalezic Italiano now finds himself in a three-way fight with promising young Kiwi keepers Oli Sail and Keegan Smith. Every club needs players to push the incumbents for their positions and Lewis Italiano has certainly done that. He's into his fifth season as a Wellington Phoenix player and spent time in the off-season in Perth where he kept a record number of clean sheets for his club in the Western Australian Premier League. Italiano is currently on loan and will link up with the side in Townsville.
