Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said it was important for the club to stand in solidarity with their Australian colleagues.

“We’re pleased that we could, in our own small way, show our support with these fundraising efforts.

‘’We watch in New Zealand the tragedy that is the Australian bushfires and want Australia to know that we’re with them in this desperate time.

‘’We’re very thankful to Sky Stadium for being part of the effort and of course to all the fans who purchased tickets and contributed.’’

Sky Stadium CEO Shane Harmon was pleased the Phoenix’s home stadium could also contribute.

“The Hyundai A-League has been good to New Zealand and we’re happy to play a small part from across the Tasman in assisting in a time of need.”

The proceeds will be donated to Rural Aid Australia and donations can still be made at www.ruralaid.com.au/football.
