Wellington Phoenix are pleased to announce U-23 Mexico representative Ulises Dávila after signing a two-year contract for the upcoming Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

The midfield playmaker has experience in several top-level leagues having moved from his native Mexico in 2011 to sign for Premier League giants Chelsea FC.

Despite not appearing for the London based side, Dávila made 98 appearances on loan until December 2015 when he returned to Mexico to sign for Santos Laguna.

Dávila, 28, comes from Indian Super League side, Delhi Dynamos FC and is keen to make an impact in his new environment.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Hyundai A-League and believe I can really show my qualities this year,” Dávila said.

“I want to thank Ufuk for having faith in me and bringing me to Wellington and I can’t wait to get started and show the fans I am here to play for the club and win games.”

Head Coach Ufuk Talay is anticipating Dávila to make an instant impact in the Hyundai A-League as he continues to build a squad in preparation for season 2019/20 and the FFA Cup Round of 32 tie in early August.

“Ulises is a versatile attacker who will excite the fans with his creative qualities which will complement our game,” Talay said.

“It’s important to get the correct import players into the club and we feel we are getting a great player in Ulises, a player who could be one of the stand out players in the league this season,” Talay added.

Dávila will occupy one of the four remaining import slots joining existing signing Steven Taylor.
