Wellington Phoenix are excited to announce the signing of both 19-year old, Callan Elliot and 28-year old, experienced full back, Reuben Way.

Elliot, the Scottish-born midfielder has enjoyed a successful trial leading to a contract, with Way coming over as a highly regarded full back from the National Premier League in Victoria.

“I have always spoken about the mentality of my players and Callan and Reuben both fall into that category.

“Callan has been with us for a long time and he’s been working extremely hard to earn this spot which he thoroughly deserves.

“Reuben has been a mainstay at a very successful club for a number of years and deserves this opportunity.

“He is the second player we’ve signed from the NPL.

“I believe in the players at that level who, if given a chance, can shine in this competition.”

Head Coach, Mark Rudan commented on the opportunity for both players at the club.

“They are both fantastic people who both possess all the attributes I require from my players to push on and become a real special part of this club.’’

Reuben Way began his career at Rochedale Rovers before playing for Gold Coast United Youth, Redlands United, Olympics FC and Heidelberg United FC.

“It is amazing to be here with Wellington Phoenix as I thought the dream of playing in the Hyundai A-League was over.

“I have played against Mark’s Sydney FC side so I am well aware of the fight his teams show and I believe I will bring that determination and passion to the squad.”

Elliot moved to Nelson when he was seven years old and has been a lifelong fan of Wellington Phoenix.

“Being a professional footballer is something I have always dreamt of.

“It’s a very special day to have secured this position and I’m very happy to be part of a very talented squad.”

Elliot highlighted the effect Rudan had on his performance in pre-season.

“He is a very good, tough coach who knows what he wants and he makes you work hard for it.

“I want to show him what I am really capable of this season and I can’t wait to get started.”

Callan Elliot began his career at Tasman United when he was scouted by former Wellington Phoenix legend, Paul Ifil.

Both players could be in line to make their full Hyundai A-League debut on Sunday 21 October against Newcastle Jets.
