The Wellington Phoenix Reserves and Southern United met at Newtown Park on a wet and windy day for Football.

Both sides started positively showing their qualities both in attack and defense but neither team were able to find an opening and gain reward for their positive showings early on.

After a tight 30 minutes, Southern United made the breakthrough with a well-taken goal to take the lead after a close start.

Not long after the visitors scored, the Wellington Phoenix reserves looked to hit back in quick fashion with Kumsaz having his shot well saved by the Southern United Goalkeeper.

In the 53rd minute, the Wellington Phoenix Reserves perseverance and attacking efforts paid off with Central defender Liam Curry finding the back of the net with a good effort glancing off his head.

The Wellington Phoenix Reserves had a good attack on goal with the ball being moved around the pitch eventually finding its way through to Benjamin Waine who was unable to latch onto the end of the through ball, keeping the scores level.

In the dying moments of the game, there was heartbreak for the Wellington Phoenix Reserves as Southern United scored a brilliant goal weaving through the defence and playing a ball across the goal to be slotted away by the away side ensuring they would leave with all 3 points.
