The Wellington Phoenix Academy are excited to partner with Greytown JFC to bring their Pre-Academy Centre to the Wairarapa.

This follows a successful joint venture in the April school holidays where the Wellington Phoenix ran a two day School Holiday Programme with Greytown JFC. The number of registrations for the programme highlighted the enthusiasm for football in the junior space in Greytown.

Greytown JFC Head Coach Gary Hewson sees the Pre-Academy Centre as a great opportunity to allow the already established, Greytown Football Skill Centre, to evolve.

“This represents a fantastic opportunity to grow the community game, whilst offering a genuine pathway into the Wellington Phoenix Academy and possibly professional football. We will also offer coach education support to the region to assist our grassroots coaches. Importantly it allows the current football Skills Centre to evolve into a sustainable and well-resourced training facility for long term,” said Hewson.

“This partnership is a wonderful chance for our local children to have fun learning great football skills in a supportive, well informed environment.”

Wellington Phoenix Academy Director, Paul Temple, says that the Pre-Academy Centres are a great way for the Phoenix to help add value in the 9-12 age bracket, where skill development is essential.

“The Wairarapa is a region that has great growth potential, we are really looking forward to starting a partnership with Greytown JFC and the Paul Ifill Football Academy.  This makes a lot of sense to us, and our goal is to help the development of young players in the region, support Paul in the youth space and provide opportunities of the region’s best players into the Phoenix Academy,” said Temple.

The Wellington Phoenix Pre-Academy Greytown Centre will run from Monday 2nd August to Monday 27th September, excluding holidays, at Soldiers Memorial Park, Greytown.

Session times: Group 1 (9th/10th Grade) 3:30pm to 4:30pm, and Group 2 (11th/12th Grade) 4:40pm to 5:40pm.
