Wellington Phoenix U-20 fell to their first defeat in three matches after goals either side of half-time secured Hawke’s Bay United a 2-0 win at home in the Stirling Sports Premiership on Sunday.

Phoenix goalkeeper Oliver Sail was called into action early, denying a handful of attempts from the home side, but he was unable to prevent Alex Kilkolly scoring the opener in the 16th minute.

Phoenix U-20 replied purposefully, with Logan Rogerson in particular looking threatening down the left. Ultimately though they could find no way through before the break.

Phoenix came out of the interval positively, but the side failed to create genuine scoring chances.

In the final 10 minutes Hawke’s Bay substitute, Facundo Barbero found himself with an easy finish and tapped in to deny the visitors at least a point.
