The Phoenix Football Fund has been established with one thing in mind – to provide a way for Wellington Phoenix fans to support the Club’s vision of lifting the Hyundai A-League trophy this season and beyond.
To achieve that goal the club needs to compete, both on and off the field, with the high profile and well-resourced Australian clubs that make up the Hyundai A-League. At the heart of this is a long-term investment of developing young players who can take the field for the Phoenix, alongside our established football veterans – who serve as mentors for these star players of tomorrow.
Over 70 players are currently in the Academy programme, and playing football for one of our four teams, at U21 (in the ISPS Handa Premiership); U17, U16 and U15 teams.
One of these players is promising midfielder Sam Sutton, 17, who first joined the Wellington Phoenix Football Academy in 2016 on a scholarship. Sam currently captains the ISPS Handa U21 squad and also practices with the Wellington Phoenix first team – his football future is looking bright.

Supporting the Phoenix Football Fund means you can support the team – and the development pathways within the Phoenix – by pledging $1 or more for every Hyundai A-League match that the Wellington Phoenix wins in the 2019/20 season.
The Wellington Phoenix Football Club invites you to join our family of players, coaches, officials, corporate partners and members in personally contributing to the continued growth of our high performance football programme in this way.
All funds will be invested in the Phoenix Football Academy, to support the operations of the Academy and our youth development programme; allowing players like Sutton, Ben Waine and Liberato Cacace to make a difference for both the Phoenix and football in New Zealand.
