Sunday-s Wellington Phoenix vs Adelaide United Hyundai A-League match at Westpac Stadium will see kid-s permitted on the ground after the game for the first time.
The round 25 match has been themed as Kid-s Day Out due to a rescheduled, earlier than usual kick off time of 3.00pm.
Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome said “a 3.00pm kick off is a time we-ve always wanted to trial and we-re very keen to see if it means more kids attend the match. While scheduling is always complex, a reasonable turn out for this game may help our case for earlier games in New Zealand in future.”
The numerous children-s activities on the concourse and child-focussed activity throughout the game look set to be trumped with kids being allowed to have a run around on the Westpac Stadium ground after the Phoenix autograph session concludes post game.
Dome adds “it-s a great opportunity for kids to have a run round of the magnificent turf that is Westpac Stadium and see what it is like to kick a ball on the Phoenix-s home ground. We would ask though that those wishing to enter the field respect and follow ground announcer and security instructions, wear flat shoes and avoid any activity that may damage the turf or pose a risk to fellow fans especially young children”.”
Shane Harmon, Westpac Stadium CEO agrees and is delighted to be able to offer a memorable experience to local families.
“There are plenty of studies to suggest that team support is activated at a younger age and where possible within our busy schedule we-re keen to support the Phoenix with opportunities like this.”
