Phoenix striker Roy Krishna has been named the A-League Player of the Week following Wellington-s controversial 2-2 draw with Melbourne Heart on Sunday.

In just his second start, Krishna scored Wellington-s first goal after six minutes and featured in their second when he cut a dangerous ball across goal from the by-line for Tyler Boyd.

The Phoenix spent almost 60 minutes of the match playing with 10 men after defender Ben Sigmund received his second yellow card.

A regular goal scorer for Waitakere and Auckland City in the ASB Championship, Krishna was pleased to get his first A-League goal under the belt.

“It takes some of the pressure off,” Krishna said.

“It is nice to get the first goal out of the way and hopefully there will be many more to come.”

Krishna, 26, came into the Phoenix squad as an injury replacement for Paul Ifill in January and became the first Fijian to play in the A-League.

“I-ve always wanted to play full time and I am really enjoying myself at the Phoenix,” the Fijian international said.

“The players here have made the transition easy, helping me settle in from my first day.”

Two other Phoenix players featured in the A-League Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper Glen Moss pulled off five superb saves and was beaten only by a deflected shot and from the penalty spot.

The other Phoenix player to feature was captain Andrew Durante who was making his 150th appearance for the club.

Durante made critical interventions and 10 clearances to help his team secure a point in difficult circumstances.
