In his first season in the Hyundai A-League, Dávila has been a revelation for the Phoenix, presenting an individual attacking threat and an effective link for his teammates.

During his five appearances for Wellington in December, the 28-year-old Mexican played all 450 minutes and contributed four goals and one assist during an unbeaten period for the club.

Demonstrating his ability to play up front or in behind as a number 10, Dávila has drawn praise from his teammates, coach and opponents. Davila says that the award is testament to his Phoenix teammates and the culture that’s been built at the club.

“I’m so happy to be named the PFA Player of the Month. I hope to continue my form and I’m happy to be here and I’m enjoying it with the guys,” Dávila said.

Dávila edged out Perth Glory’s Diego Castro and Sydney FC’s Adam Le Fondre for this award, which is voted by the other Hyundai A-League players.

Wellington Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay says this is a well-deserved award for Dávila.

“Ulises has had a great season and is an important player for our club with his ability to attack and create for others – I have no doubt he’s the best import in this competition.

“We’re pleased that he’s been recognised for his success with the Phoenix in his first season, and we’re excited to see him continue to grow alongside our young squad as we pursue a place in the Hyundai A-League finals.”
