The Wellington Phoenix announced today that it has appointed a Community Development Officer.
The role, which will be responsible for delivering the Club-s community interaction plan, will be shared with a communications role at Capital Football in an initiative that will be a first for both organisations.
The Community Development Officer will work within the Club organising player appearances, coaching clinics and charity support, as well as a variety of Club support initiatives. Importantly it will allow a greater integration of local football projects within the Phoenix-s own community interaction plan.
Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the role is an exciting development for both the club and Capital Football.
“Sharing the person with Capital Football we believe is a fantastic initiative which will benefit both organisations,” Dome said.
“From the Phoenix-s point of view, it allows us to integrate more closely with Capital Football-s Whole of Football Plan, and at the same time allows us to expand into those channels that Capital Football has already developed.
“The Phoenix-s Community Plan has always been an important part of the Club-s overall strategy and this announcement further strengthens the Club-s ability to develop its links in this area.”
Capital Football CEO Richard Reid welcomed the joint initiative.
“We are very pleased to be involved with the Phoenix in this initiative and the specific communications part of the role, particular to Capital Football, will be invaluable,” Reid said..
The role will be filled by Alida Shanks, currently Football Development Administrator at Capital Football.
Shanks won the Sports Administrator of the Year award at the recent 2012 Wellington Sports Awards.
