ROLE:  HEAD OF FEMALE ACADEMY PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Purpose: The Head of Female Academy Physiotherapist plays a pivotal role, alongside the Head of Male Academy Physiotherapist, in optimising the physical health and well-being of female football players within the Wellington Phoenix Academy. This position demands a profound understanding of physiotherapy principles tailored to football-specific requirements, coupled with the ability to create and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs aligned with the developmental needs of young, female athletes. As an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Head of Female Academy Physiotherapist will assume a leadership role in overseeing and executing the academy’s physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs for female players aged U13 to U21.

Who Are We: The Wellington Phoenix Board’s long-term vision is to build a club that is self-sustaining financially and which achieves the highest standards of excellence for the football played on the field and the corporate governance and structure off the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the assessment and delivery of all physiotherapy and comprehensive injury rehabilitation support for academy players, aligning with the club’s physiotherapy philosophy.
  • Design and implement age-appropriate injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, emphasising long-term athletic development.
  • Collaboration with Coaching Staff.

  • Leadership and Mentorship.
  • Communication.

Key Competencies (Essential):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, or equivalent is required
  • Masters of physiotherapy or desire to study further is desirable but not necessary.
  • Minimum of two years physiotherapy experience in football or other sports required.
  • Current First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Full Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday (subject to the requirement of the business).

ROLE:  LEAD ACADEMY GOALKEEPING COACH

Purpose: The Lead Academy Goalkeeping Coach plays a crucial role in the coaching and development of Goalkeepers within the academy. This position requires a deep understanding of Goalkeeping specific coaching and development principles, as well as the ability to design and implement comprehensive Goalkeeping coaching sessions that align with the developmental needs of youth Goalkeepers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the delivery of all academy Goalkeeper development. Ensuring Goalkeeper development sessions for all ages groups are specific and individualised where possible.
  • Design and implement Goalkeeper coaching programmes.
  • Record and analyse all Goalkeeper training sessions and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Collaboration with Coaching Staff.
  • Goalkeeping Coach Men’s Reserve Team.
  • Research and Innovation.
  • Leadership and Mentorship.
  • Communication.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Oceania/NZF ‘C’ Licence Goalkeeping Coaching Badge or equivalent.
  • NZ Youth Level 2 as a minimum but NZ Youth Level 3 preferred or overseas equivalent.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Full Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday (subject to the requirement of the business).
  • Experience in designing and implementing Goalkeeper coaching programs guided by best practice youth development principles.
